My name is Kendra Billen and I am the Behavior Specialist for Main Street School. The 17-18 school year will mark my 10th year in education, specifically working with students with behavioral challenges in the school setting. I was born and raised in the Austin, Texas area and moved to the city of Fort Worth where I attended college and resided for the next 13 years. In 2016, my husband and I knew it was time for a change and moved to Colorado- a place we have always loved visiting, skiing, and exploring! Our first year here has been fantastic and we look forward to raising our first child in such a great state!
I taught in a self-contained Special Education classroom for six years, followed by a position as a district-wide Behavior Specialist for two years prior to moving to Colorado. My education includes a Bachelor’s Degree in EC-4 Education and a Master’s degree in Special Education from Texas Christian University, a Master’s Degree from Dallas Baptist University in Educational Administration, and I am currently working on becoming a Board Certified Behavior Analyst through the University of North Texas.
I feel strongly that we possess a great power when it comes to creating behavioral changes in our students, large and small. With those changes, students are able to more successfully and more appropriately navigate ever-changing situations in ways that prepare them for their future as adults in our community. There is nothing greater than seeing a student empowered by their own choices that result in positive reinforcement in their environment!
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband, cats, and dog; scrapbooking; swimming; watching college football; reading; and snow skiing in the beautiful Rockies!
