Welcome to Main Street School! My name is Kassy McDermott and I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and moved out to Colorado in 2008. I have my Bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and a Master's degree in Social Work with a family and high-risk youth focus from the University of Denver. I just love the concept of wrap-around services for students and their families and have so much fun working with the diverse population we serve. This is my 3rd year working as a social worker for the Main Street School middle school class. I have a background in working in the home and in public schools to support students with autism and/or emotional disabilities. I have also held district-wide behavior specialist and autism specialist positions in St. Vrain. This job always keeps me learning and growing my skills, which is great! My favorite part about what I do is when a student discovers the power they have over their future and when they recognize that they hold the key to changing their life for the better.
I spend most of my spare time with my husband and two young boys at home. I also like to do crafty things such as quilting, knitting, and crocheting. Some day I would love to take a vacation to somewhere tropical. I'm looking forward to working with some amazing staff and students this year!
