My name is Julie Johnson. I was born and raised in Fargo, North Dakota. It is an amazing place to be from and I still go back there frequently to spend time with family and friends. I have a lovely grown daughter, her fiance’ and 2 fantastic grandchildren in my immediate family. As early as the age of 9, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. So, I attended No. Dak. State Univ. and Moorhead State Univ. to receive my Bachelor’s Degree with a double major in Elementary Education and Special Education. I started teaching at the age of 23. I taught 4 years in Minnesota and then moved to Colorado. I went back to college at Univ. of No Colo. and received my Master’s Degree in Special Education - Learning Disabilities. I have taught for St. Vrain Valley School District for 34 years - all in Special Education. Throughout the years, I have continued my education and earned certification for Reading Specialist. I am also Highly Qualified to teach Language Arts. I spent 26 years being a Special Education Resource Teacher at Mead Elementary, Mead Middle School and Coal Ridge Middle School. Then I had an opportunity to transfer to Alpine Elementary and co-teach in a Reading Lab for 2 years. It was the best decision of my teaching career. I discovered that my passion is teaching reading. I was then asked by the Sp. Ed. Director to be an Itinerant Reading Specialist for middle school students who struggle greatly with reading. I traveled to 5 schools daily to provide intensive individual or small group reading instruction to these young people for 4 years. For the past 2 ½ years, I have worked with the DLA (Digital Learning Academy) as a Special Education Teacher. I also am a consultant and provide direct Reading instruction for students who attend Main Street School. This is a very fulfilling teaching position for me.
